“What sells me on the Ash Gold is the value: a genuine 440C convex slice edge on a 3D offset handle at this price, where most blades with that spec ask a good deal more. At 58-60HRC the steel won’t hold an edge as long as a cobalt blade, but it takes a clean sharpening and gives you a smooth slice through blunt lines and soft slide work without dragging. I’d hand this to a stylist who wants one right-handed daily driver across club cutting and graduation, and the longer 6.5” and 7.0” lengths are happy doing scissor-over-comb. The honest caveat is that 440C is a workhorse steel, not a showpiece, so on coarse, resistant Australian hair you’ll be back at the stone sooner than you would with VG-10. For an apprentice stepping up to a real convex blade, or a busy floor stylist who doesn’t want to baby a tool, it earns its spot.”
