Description
The Ichiro Offset is a foundation cutting scissor — the blade your shape is built on before any blending or texturising goes in. It runs a convex slice-cutting edge in 440C steel at 58-60HRC, on an offset handle, across five lengths from 5.0” to 7.0”. As the cutter in your kit, it pairs with a separate thinner for the second half of a cut.
- Convex slice-cutting edge: glides through hair for clean slide cutting and crisp point work without pushing
- 440C at 58-60HRC: a forgiving hardness that takes a keen edge and comes back easily on a hone
- Offset handle: drops the thumb back to keep the wrist neutral through a full head of graduation
- Ball-bearing pivot: a stable, consistent close that holds tension through the day
- Five lengths: 5.0”, 5.5”, 6.0”, 6.5” and 7.0” — most general salon work sits at 5.5” or 6.0”, with the 7.0” for scissor-over-comb reach
- Supplied with: razor blades, oil brush, cloth, finger inserts and tension key
Professional Opinion
“I rate this as a sensible daily driver rather than a showpiece, and that’s meant as a compliment. The 440C steel sits at 58-60HRC, which is a forgiving hardness — it takes a slice-cutting edge well and, just as importantly, it’s easy to bring back on a hone when the edge softens, so you’re not precious about it. The offset handle drops the thumb back and keeps my wrist neutral through a full head of graduation. With the convex face I get clean slide cutting and the point work stays crisp.
Across the size range I’d steer most stylists to the 5.5” or 6.0” for general salon work; the 7.0” is really for scissor-over-comb and barbering reach. Be honest with yourself about the 440C though — it won’t hold an edge as long as a cobalt or powdered steel, so dense, wiry hair all day will have you back at the stone sooner. For a stylist who wants a comfortable, repairable workhorse at this price, it’s a fair deal.”
