Description

The Yasaka SA-30 OF is a 30-tooth thinning shear built by Yasaka Seiki in Japan. With a stated 25% cut ratio it removes roughly a quarter of the hair it catches per pass, which places it firmly as a blender rather than a bulk-stripper: enough to take weight out and soften a line, while leaving the rest of the section intact so the work stays invisible. The 5.5” length and offset handle keep it controllable for detail.

“At 30 teeth and a 25% cut ratio, this is a blender I would put in the everyday-thinning bracket rather than the bulk-reduction one. A quarter-removal-per-pass is the sweet spot for softening layer lines, taking the heaviness off a fringe and blending fine to medium hair where you never want to see where the shear went. It also point-thins ends nicely thanks to the offset handle and 5.5” length keeping things controllable. The SUS440C holds its tooth edge cleanly, which is what keeps a thinner from folding and tugging hair. The honest limitation is the rate itself: on a very thick, dense head you will be making a lot of passes to shift real volume, and a coarser 16-to-20-tooth blade gets there faster. Buy it for finesse and blending, not for hauling weight out in a hurry.”
