“A 30-tooth blade sits in the sweet spot for me — enough teeth to blend cleanly, few enough that you still feel where the steel is removing weight, so it reads as a finishing thinner rather than a heavy debulker. The Takefu Cobalt at 60HRC is the real story: it takes a fine point on each tooth and holds it, and over the strands you get that quiet, traceless detachment with no fold-and-tug at the tips. The 3D tooth geometry is forgiving on angle, which makes it kind to anyone still learning where to seat a thinner. Two honest caveats. First, at 30 teeth this isn’t your tool for stripping a thick, coarse head fast — for serious bulk you’d want a coarser 16-to-20-tooth texturiser. Second, it’s a $499 thinner, so it earns its keep on a stylist who thins daily, not someone who reaches for one a few times a week. It’s offered in a true left build as well, which is rarer than it should be in this class.”
