The Ichiro Ergo Apprentice is a thinner built around the most forgiving spec to learn on: 30 teeth on a 6” offset blade, in stainless alloy steel at 56-58 HRC. “Traceless” describes the tooth form — each tooth is cut to detach the strand cleanly so the blend lands without an obvious shelf or step, which is exactly what you want while you’re still building a feel for how much weight comes out per pass. At 30 teeth it takes a moderate, even cut rate (the share of hair removed in one closed pass), so a heavy hand is far less likely to leave a hole than it would with a coarse, wide-tooth blade.

The teeth are cut cleanly enough to detach without the tug at the tips that gives away a budget thinner, and the offset handle keeps the wrist neutral while you’re still building muscle memory. The stainless alloy at 56-58HRC is sensible training steel: it holds a usable edge and shrugs off the salon, though I’d be honest that it’ll need sharpening sooner than a cobalt blade and the points are the part to protect. What it isn’t is a fast bulk-remover — 30 fine teeth blend and finish, they don’t strip a dense head quickly, so a busy stylist on coarse hair will eventually want a coarser texturiser alongside it. As a first thinner you can actually grow with, it’s well judged and fairly priced.”
