The thinner is the part to understand. A 30-tooth blade sits in the blend-and-soften band rather than heavy bulk removal — closer to a 20-30% take per pass depending on how wet the hair is and where you sit the section. That makes it a tool for refining graduation, softening a perimeter and feathering weight out, not for hollowing a thick head in a couple of cuts. For real bulk removal you would step down to a coarser, lower-tooth-count blade.

“I treat this as a starter or backup kit that happens to look good, and on that basis it earns its place. The pairing is sensible: a convex cutter for your blunt line and layering next to a 30-tooth thinner that blends rather than bulks. If your daily problem is softening graduation and feathering weight out of mid-density hair, the 30-tooth count is exactly right, and the offset keeps the hand relaxed through a long blending pass.

Where I’d set expectations is removal. Thirty teeth is a blending count, so on a genuinely thick, coarse head you’ll be making several passes where a coarse 16- or 20-tooth blade would clear it faster. The 440C holds a fine edge but wants honing sooner than a cobalt steel once you’re cutting dense hair daily, and the coloured finish needs a wipe and a touch of oil at the pivot to keep looking its best. For the price and the matched look, a fair buy — just know it’s a finisher, not a heavy thinner.”
