Description
This is a two-piece kit: a convex-edge cutter — choose your length from 5.0” up to 7.0” — paired with a 6.0” thinner carrying fine V-form teeth. The matte-black colour is a coating over the blade, chosen for a low-glare, low-reflection look on the bench; the steel beneath is 440C stainless at 58-60HRC. The cutter shapes the line, the thinner blends into it.
The thinner runs a frontmatter rate of 20-25% dry and 25-30% wet, which puts it in the blend-and-soften band: lifting visible weight and adding movement, not the heavy hollowing a coarse, low-tooth-count blade delivers. The V-form teeth give a positive bite, so keep the blade clear of the very ends unless visible texture there is the aim.
- Two-piece kit: a convex slice cutter (5.0”-7.0”) plus a 6.0” V-form thinner for line and blend
- Fine V-form teeth: a positive, clean bite that lifts weight without snagging
- 20-25% dry / 25-30% wet: a blending rate — softening and refining rather than stripping bulk
- 440C at 58-60HRC: dependable stainless; honed sooner than a cobalt steel on coarse hair
- Matte-black coating: a low-glare finish over the blade — care at the pivot keeps it looking sharp
Professional Opinion
“The matte-black finish is the obvious draw, and it’s a practical one — no glare bouncing off the blade under salon lights — but the kit behind it is a straightforward cut-and-blend pairing. The convex cutter slides cleanly and gives a tidy blunt line, and the V-form thinner at a 20-25% dry take softens weight into the shape without leaving a hard step. Being able to size the cutter from 5.0” to 7.0” is the genuinely useful part.
The caveat is the same one I give for any blending thinner: it refines, it doesn’t strip. On a thick, coarse head you’ll make more passes than a coarse low-tooth-count blade would need, so add one of those if heavy removal is routine. The black coating also wants a wipe and a little oil at the pivot to stay looking its best, the 440C will hone sooner than a cobalt steel under dense work, and handedness is fixed per variant. For an everyday cut-and-blend kit with a clean, low-glare look, it’s a fair buy.”
