Description
This is the black-finish twin of the Taiyo texturiser: a 6.0” blade with 15 teeth on a full convex edge. Fifteen teeth is a coarse count — wide gaps between teeth mean a bigger bite of hair per pass, so this is a chunking and weight-removal tool, built to clear real bulk and put visible separation into thick hair rather than to blend seamlessly. The polished-black colour is a coating over the blade; the steel beneath is VG-10 Japanese stainless at 60-62HRC, harder than the brand’s 440C lines and holding its tooth edges sharp through far more cutting.
- 15 teeth on a convex blade: a coarse, weight-removing count — chunking and movement, not fine blending
- VG-10 at 60-62HRC: a harder steel that keeps its tooth edges sharp far longer than 440C
- 6.0” length: a versatile mid-size for sectioning and texturising across the head
- Tejina tension screw: holds its setting rather than creeping loose mid-client
- Polished-black coating: a finish over the blade — care at the pivot keeps it looking sharp
Professional Opinion
“Same coarse, capable texturiser as the silver Taiyo, finished in black — and the black coating does a practical job, cutting glare off the blade on the bench. Where it earns its keep is bulk: 15 teeth take a generous bite, so it hollows out a thick head and creates separation in fewer passes than any fine blender, and the VG-10 at 60-62HRC keeps those tooth edges sharp long after a 440C tooth would have dulled.
The trade-off is built into the geometry. A 15-tooth blade is a weight-remover, not a seamless finisher — on fine hair, or where you want an invisible blend, the wide tooth gap can leave a step if your placement drifts high. For that, reach for a higher tooth count. VG-10 is harder and less forgiving of a chip, the coating wants a wipe and oil at the pivot, and it’s right-hand only. As a dedicated chunking scissor for dense hair, it’s a strong, long-lasting one.”
