The Joewell HXG is a texturiser built from Joewell’s Supreme Stainless Alloy, and its two models read counter-intuitively until you look at the teeth. The HXG-20 (20 teeth) removes 15-20% per pass; the HXG-17 (17 teeth) removes more, 25-30%, because fewer teeth means wider gaps and a bigger bite. Both use flat teeth with extended gaps, a profile that captures and releases hair freely for clean texture work on a 5.9” frame.

“This is a texturiser, not a fine blender, and the two models give you a genuine choice of how much bite. Counter to instinct, the lower-tooth HXG-17 removes more (25-30%) than the HXG-20 (15-20%), because fewer teeth means wider gaps, so I steer the 17 toward bolder chunking and separation, and the 20 toward more controlled texture and softer weight removal. The flat-tooth-and-wide-gap profile captures hair freely, which is what makes either one feel clean rather than draggy, and Joewell’s Supreme Stainless Alloy holds the tooth edge and services well over years. The honest limitation is that neither is an invisible blender in the way a 30-to-40-tooth shear is: these leave texture you can see, by design.
