The Juntetsu Chomper sits in the texturiser bracket of the thinning category. With 16 V-form teeth on a 6.0” blade, the gaps between teeth are wide, so each pass leaves chunky separation and movement rather than the invisible blend a 30-tooth-plus shear gives you. V-form teeth (a simple notched V profile) bite and release hair cleanly, which is what stops a coarse-tooth shear from dragging.

“This is a texturiser first, so set your expectations by the tooth count. At 16 widely-spaced V-form teeth it takes a real bite per pass, which is exactly what you want when you’re chunking out weight, carving channels into thick hair or building piece-y separation through the ends. The VG10 at 60-62 HRC is the part that earns its keep on a thinner: hard teeth keep biting cleanly where soft ones fold and pull, and that matters more on a coarse-tooth blade than on a fine one. The honest limitation is that those wide gaps will not give you traceless blending, so it is the wrong tool for softening a fine fringe or hiding your work on slippery hair. Reach for it when you want texture you can see, and keep a higher-tooth blade alongside for the invisible stuff.”
