Description
The defining choice on the Juntetsu Cobalt texturiser is the cut ratio — it’s a 30-tooth, 6” offset blade hand-finished in Tokyo from Takefu VG-10 cobalt steel, and you select how aggressively it removes weight at purchase. Cut ratio is simply the share of hair the blade takes in one closed pass, so it’s the dial that decides whether you’re blending invisibly or de-bulking hard. Three settings are offered: Finesse (15%), Blend (20%) and Sculptor (30%).
The teeth are cut and hand-honed to grip and shear each strand cleanly, which is what keeps the texturising snag-free; the VG-10 cobalt holds those tooth edges through heavy salon weeks. The offset handle drops the thumb to keep the wrist neutral, and the removable finger rest lets you reposition or take off the tang for different techniques.

Choose Your Cut Ratio
Finesse (15% Cut Ratio):
The lowest take of the three, for the most invisible work. Best on fine hair, soft fringes and precision finishing where you need to feather weight out without leaving a line or losing volume.
Blend (20% Cut Ratio):
The middle setting and the everyday all-rounder — a balance of weight removal and volume retention that suits most heads. The one to choose if you want a single texturiser for general salon work.
Sculptor (30% Cut Ratio):
The heaviest take, for moving real weight. Best for de-bulking thick, dense hair quickly while keeping shape. The trade-off is that a higher rate blends less invisibly than the 15% on fine hair, so it’s a bulk tool first.
- Handle and Tension
Removable Finger Rest System
The finger rest (tang) screws on and off, so you can set it where it suits your grip or take it off entirely for techniques that want a freer thumb. Repositioning it is also a quick way to ease hand fatigue across a long texturising session.
Flat-Bearing Click Tension
The flat-bearing tension screw adjusts in defined clicks and holds its setting through intensive use, so the blade keeps the same feel and resistance from the first pass to the last rather than loosening as you work.
Balance
The blade is weighted for texturising rather than power cutting, which keeps it controllable for the small, repeated motions of point and slide work and helps reduce wrist strain over a long detail session.
- Made in Tokyo
Juntetsu hand-finish these in Tokyo, and the part of that work you actually feel is the teeth: each is honed and aligned so it shears the strand cleanly instead of pushing it, which is the difference between a smooth blend and a snag. The VG-10 cobalt then holds that tooth edge through months of daily use, so the cutting action you buy is the action you keep.
Professional Opinion
“The reason to buy this one is the cut-ratio choice, and it’s worth thinking about before you click. All three are the same 30-tooth VG-10 blade — what changes is how much each pass takes. I’d send most stylists to the Blend (20%): it’s the everyday setting that lightens and shapes across nearly any head without leaving a line. Take the Finesse (15%) if your work is fine hair and invisible finishing, where you’re feathering weight a fraction at a time and can’t afford a step. The Sculptor (30%) is the one for de-bulking thick, dense heads quickly — just be clear that the heavier take blends less invisibly than the 15%, so it’s a bulk tool, not a fine-detail one. Across all three, the cobalt teeth shear cleanly with no tug, and the flat-bearing tension genuinely holds its setting through the day rather than drifting. The honest caveats: it’s a texturiser only, so it partners your shears rather than replacing them, and at this price you’re paying for the cobalt edge retention and the hand-finished teeth — fair if texturising is a real part of your work, more scissor than a once-a-week blender needs. Match the ratio to your clientele and it’s an excellent, long-lived tool.”
