Description
The Mina Ash Black Hairdressing Scissor Set pairs a slice-edge cutter with a matching 6.0” thinner, so you can set a line and then blend the weight out of it. The thinner is the texturising half of the kit, and it works in blend-and-soften territory rather than heavy bulk removal.
- Cutting-grade steel: Stainless alloy (7CR) at 55-57HRC across both pieces — honest hardness that sharpens cleanly and resists corrosion.
- Slice cutting edge with convex blade: A rounded bevel on the cutter for smooth blunt lines and slide work.
- Matching 6.0” thinner: Removes weight gently and leaves a soft transition, not a shelf.
- Offset handle: Keeps the thumb forward and the wrist neutral across long sessions.
- Black allergy-neutral coating: Easier on skin that reacts to nickel.
- Light at 42g per piece: Less mass to manage through back-to-back work.
- Choose 5.5” or 6.0” cutting with the 6.0” thinner; includes case, cloth and tension key.
Professional Opinion
“This is a sensible first kit, and the thinner is the part that does the texturising work. It blends weight out gently and leaves a soft line rather than a shelf, which suits feathering a fringe or taking the heaviness out of a thick four-corners — finishing work, not reshaping. The slice-edge cutter handles your blunt lines and a bit of slide cutting, the offset keeps the wrist comfortable, and at 42g neither piece tires the hand. The black coating is a genuine plus if you or a client react to nickel. Be realistic about the steel: 7CR at 55-57HRC is dependable cutting-grade, not cobalt, so both blades dull sooner than a Yasaka or Kasho and I would replace the thinner rather than pay to resharpen serrations. It is right-handed only. As an apprentice’s starter pair or a tidy low-cost second kit, it does exactly what it sets out to do.”
