The Mina Umi Set pairs your two most-used tools — a slice-edge cutting scissor in the size you choose, plus a 6” thinner with 30 V-form teeth. Both are made in SUS440C stainless steel at 58 HRC, both run a light 42g body and a left- or right-handed offset handle, so the cut and the blend feel matched in the hand.

The thinner is the texturising half. Its 30 V-shaped teeth meet the opposite blade at a point, so each strand is sheared cleanly rather than folded — that’s what keeps a blend natural instead of stepped — and at 30 teeth it removes a moderate 20–30% of weight per closed pass. Cut rate is simply that share of hair taken in one pass, so this is a blend-and-soften spec rather than a fast bulk-stripper. The cutter handles your lines and slide cutting; the thinner takes the weight out.

“This set covers the basics cleanly, and the thinner is the half that makes it complete. The 6” 30-tooth blade at 20–30% is the forgiving everyday spec — V-form teeth that shear cleanly, so you soften and de-weight without the obvious steps a coarse thinner leaves. The slice-edge cutter makes slide cutting easy, both pieces are light at 42g, and the left- or right-hand offset is a genuine plus for lefties who usually pay more. Where I’d set expectations: at a moderate rate the thinner blends rather than strips heavy bulk fast, so very dense heads will want a coarser blade eventually, and SUS440C at 58 HRC is a dependable working steel, not a cobalt edge holder. As a starter set for a new stylist, or a solid backup pairing for a seasoned one, it’s well-judged for the price.”
